foodlog: Cafe Momoko

Cafe momoko - A small cozy little japanese/korean restaurant hidden in the deep west of Calgary .

Gene forgot some of his stuff at home, and so he need to picked it up at my place, but living in the west quadrant of calgary , Im quite lazy to go to downtown. So i told Gene to visit this Japanese /korean restaurant around the west spring community. It is only a 15 min bus ride from our place.

Momoko is located in #3, 8 Weston drive s.w. calgary ab. Its located inside the community rather than in the business area where lots of restaurant and establishment are. We were the 1st customer to arrived, but can tell that they're busy ,because can hear cooking from the kitchen and some phone calls for orders.

The windows

A nice fireplace and some photos stick on the wall from customers.

The owner guy was very accommodating, have good sense of humor. It took us quite a bit longer to order coz of the choices from the menu, but the food arrived not so long or maybe we didn't noticed coz they served free appetizer which is home made baked potato chips.
The chips tasted good, its not salty and not hard compare to the other store.

So our ordered was served just right after we finished the chips. *Hoorayyy*
.
The 15pcs Calamari for $10 (we took a piece). For the price its pretty cheap compare to other japanese restaurant as they only served the rings no tentacles part or what. Its perfectly cook, the squid isnt hard or rubbery when you chew. Its not overly battered too which i like.

The  korean sides: kimchi, pickled radish and salad.
Gene said the kimchi is bit saltier, and its fresh too. Has no strong smells or taste.
I finished the kimchi coz its good.
For the green salad, i cant comment coz i rarely eat salad.
But this side dish has lighter taste compare to other korean sides i had tried before.
The good part is you can ask for refills.:-)
And our main dish:
All-in-one bbq special for $29.50
it comes with the korean side dish mentioned above. vegetable tempura, fresh lettuce, steamed rice, marinated beef bulgogi, spicy chicken, beef short rib. this is good to share as it has good serving.Gene like the short rib . All the meat was really marinated because we can really tasted all the way.
The chicken isnt spicy enough for gene coz he liked spicy alot .
And because all the meat was really well seasoned an extra rice will be good to have :-)

Overall experienced was great and fun because the owner really treat everyone fair and nicely.
It got busy around 7pm and youll hear customer laughing because the owner entertained everyone well.

Very happy of our adventure today. Before heading to the restaurant Gene kept teasing me if how good cafe momoko's food will be.
Glad it turned out well than what i expected :-)
