YYC PIZZA WEEK: Charbar, Eastvillage, Calgary

Charbar Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato
Me and my girlfriend been meaning to visit this restaurant for some time now after reading the reviews on Zomato. The moment I finally have the urge to go there, it happens to fall on a YYC Pizza Week event and that's double the motivation to have a chow. For those who don't know about the event, please visit the link to know more.

Once we arrived to our destination, I was really impressed with the layout. It's an open space with rustic theme colors, but somehow unique that it mirrors the layout of the Simmons building. You can sense the raw structure of the historical building fused with modern design.

Another note to mention is that this building is more than just a charbar, it has partnered with Sidewalk Citizen Bakery and Phil & Sebastian Coffee Roasters to promote thriving local business. We were seated at the bar area, and ordered charbar's YYC Pizza Week dish, Truffled Pighead Mortadella, Sausage skillet chorizo, and beef short riblets. As for drinks, I had the Foundry Golden Cider beer. To me it's a great drink to cleanse the palette, and gives a nice refreshing finish after a chow.

Foundry Golden Cider: Slow-matured to give a rich, golden colour and ripe apple aroma, Foundry Golden Cider is effervescent with a medium-dry taste and a refreshing apple-flavoured finish.

"Argentinian style pizza, piled high with Charcut's signature Truffled Pighead Mortadella, smothered in traditional Argentine provoleta cheese, sprinkled with pistachios and finished with Sky Hawk Olive Oil. Each fugazza features Sidewalk Citizen Bakery's chewy & tender sour dough crust."

This is one of my favorite pizza flavor as it has a strong taste of the meat (not overpowering) and well seasoned which reminds me the taste I have in the Philippines. The added pistachios gave a new layer of flavor and texture to this bad boy.

On these next 2 items are cooked from a wood fire parrilla, which is an essential part of the Argentinian barbeque which is called asado bringing out the authentic flavors of Argentinian asado.

I highly recommend the ribs if you are seriously hungry or a meat lover. It is bold in flavor of the meat, the wood fire definitely helped brought out the natural flavor of this morsel and the fat that came with it is worth the bite.

sausage skillet chorizo and morcilla (blood sausage)

I honestly never expected the blood sausage after it was served. Afterwards, I looked it up what morcilla was and there it was. I've never tried blood sausage, but it has a unique taste to it and I actually liked it. It was soft, rich, creamy, and all of the ingredients in it really outdone themselves.

Overall experience was worth the walk from City Hall train station, and I highly recommend this place whether it would be brunch, or dinner. There will always be a dish for anyone to enjoy.
