Travelog: Mexico 2015

Yucatan Peninsula Mexico- travelling to Mexico on the month of August was one big decision we had made. We decided to choose Riviera Maya for 9 days due to what it offer and its in our budget.
I always look forward for a new place to explore.

We stayed at the Gran bahia principe Tulum for the rest of our stay. The hotel was huge, clean and has lots of activity every night at the place they called Hacienda.

This resort is huge enough that you need to take a shuttle cart to go around. It caters to families, couples and friends. The weather was hot and humid with some rain which didn't last long.
Most of the time was roaming and spending time near the beach with our margaritas, tequila, and food.

The hotel grounds has this cute creature roaming around. Lots of iguanas which i am scared. this friendly raccoon. The beach has some turtle eggs to which the hotel gave protection. As the hotel known for being Eco-friendly. Living close to nature and away from the busy city.

This is one of the evening show the hotel is offering. Mexican knows how to party! Every Thursday they have this fiesta night where they offered music, traditional Mexican games, fiesta food like corn, popcorn, cotton candy and tequila!! Different culture gathered together to have fun and enjoy the night.

This is one of the reason why we chose riviera Mayan over Cancun. The ruins of Coba Coba is a large ruined city of the Pre-Colombian Maya civilization, located in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico. We got the chance to climb it up , being its last year to be open for public climbing. being on top of it was an achievement. It was steep and a bit scary but this is an opportunity that comes only once.

We also went to a small Mayan village where they're elder perform and showed as some rituals and herbal natural medicine they used. A village woman also showed us how to make tortillas.

After climbing the top of coba and visiting the village. We head out to go to a Cenote ,it  is a natural pit, or sinkhole, resulting from the collapse of limestone bedrock that exposes groundwater underneath. We were able to swim after a long day of hike. The water was cold , and so deep. The ceiling has wonderful rock formation . It was indeed an adventure worth remembering.

After our adventure at the Mayan ruins and Cenotes. We head out to the city of Cancun for a day trip. Cancun city was clean and we were able to speak to some locals. Being able to speak Chavacano
which is a Spanish based creole , had given me the ideas on up to what they are talking about.

We went to eat at the local market and ordered a Pozole. Pozole  is a traditional pre-Colombian stew from Mexico .It is made from Hominy,
with meat, usually pork, chicken, turkey, pork rinds, chili peppers, and other seasonings and garnish such as cabbage, salsa and limes and/or lemons. Eating a bowl of it was so filling. After a nice warm meal, we went to a beach in Cancun near isla Mujeres. The beach has turquoise warm water and white sands. It was kinda hot so walking barefoot is not a good idea.

After swimming we head back home to our hotel where we ended up eating at a Brazilian restaurant of the hotel. I am a meat person so this was so perfect eating unlimited meat, ranging from lamb, beef, pork, chicken and turkey.

Our last day was spend in a natural water park called Xelha. Xel-Ha Park is a commercial aquatic theme park and ecotourism development located on the Caribbean coast of the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico.
This is the bus that picked us up. Very well decorated, spacious and clean. The Xelha park was so huge that a day was not enough. there is a lot of activity they offer.

We snorkel all day , zip line, walking on the jungle trails, riding a salbabida a round flotation device along the river. From the depths of underground caves and through the mangroves fresh water flows into the cove where it mixes with warm seawater. The outcome of this is a phenomenon known as the thermocline and halocline, a mixture of fresh and salt water which in combination with the wide variety of marine vegetation and multicolored fish living in the Xel-Há river, creates the perfect environment for snorkeling.

Our last day was visiting shops for souvenir buying. So colorful and a lot of stuff to choose. From liquors, tobacco, decors, and handmade products. When visiting Mexico it is always better to bring US dollar and some Mexican peso for purchases. Stores accept both money Us dollar and Mexican peso. But its not a good idea to exchange your currency to us dollar while in Mexico as you wont get good deals as compare outside Mexico.

This has been a long blog post. Our 9 days Mexico trip for summer 2015,.
